Bright Buildings Award

Bright Buildings stands for best in class building strategies and standards. It’s for organizations committed to forward thinking, and positive change. Your achievements in energy efficiency will stand out amongst colleagues and competitors, but also in the communities you live and work in.

This distinction will be presented in four tiers:

Bronze: for buildings that reduce their overall energy consumption by 20%

Silver: for buildings that reduce their overall energy consumption by 40%

Gold: for buildings that reduce their overall energy consumption by 60%

Platinum: for buildings that have achieved Net Zero status

This year, Efficiency Nova Scotia is proud to award six businesses with the first annual Bright Buildings distinction.

Gold

  • Eskasoni First Nation – Eskasoni Health Centre; and
  • East Port Properties – The Wilkinson Project 

Silver

  • Municipality of the District of Guysborough – Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex;
  • Membertou First Nation – Membertou Arena and Wellness Centre;
  • Paramount Management – St. Joseph’s Square; and
  • HRM Apartments – The Velo

Eastport Properties

The Gold Bright Buildings Award shines twice as bright for winner Eastport Properties. Their two 65,000 sq. ft. Dartmouth warehouses were built with energy efficiency in mind. Solar PV, heat pumps, and heat recovery ventilators help them operate exactly as designed, while offering a more comfortable environment for anyone inside.

Gold Bright Buildings Winner

Eskasoni Health Centre

Congratulations to Gold Bright Building Award winner, Eskasoni Health Centre. This community health services hub was built with energy efficiency. By installing air to water heat pump systems, heat recovery ventilators, and more, the building uses less energy, and occupants are enjoying the good things efficiency brings.

Silver Bright Buildings Winner

Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre

The Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre is a hub for the community, and now, a Silver Bright Building Winner. With two ice surfaces, a walking track, YMCA gym and event spaces, there were many areas where they could implement energy efficiency. From the building envelope to the ice surfaces, they made many updates and are now enjoying the good things efficiency brings. Congratulations on your win!

Silver Bright Buildings Winner

St. Joseph’s Square

Energy efficiency makes for a cozier home at St. Joseph’s Square—a 106-unit apartment building in the North End. A Silver Bright Buildings Award Winner, developers worked with us to include things like hybrid heat pumps, heat recovery ventilators, and high efficiency appliances into the building. Tenants are more comfortable, and everyone involved is now enjoying the good things efficiency brings. Congrats!

Silver Bright Buildings Winner

The Velo

Gottingen St. housing project, The Velo, is a Silver Bright Buildings Award Winner. This building is as energy efficient as it is ‘Instagrammable,’ with inclusions such as a heat pump system connected to in-floor radiant heating, heat recovery ventilators, and heat pump water heating. These efficiencies make tenants more comfortable, while also making units more affordable.  Congratulations!
