How Can I Participate?
Efficiency Nova Scotia will work with your organization to develop a customized program for your energy-efficiency project. If your project involves only lighting, simply complete and submit the Lighting Saving Worksheet with help from your contactor or lighting distributor. If you are looking to implement other energy saving opportunities follow the steps below:
1. Preliminary Energy Audit/Scoping Study
This initial study is conducted to identify energy-saving opportunities. If your organization has already identified energy-saving projects, a formal preliminary audit may not be required.
Efficiency Nova Scotia can:
- Help your organization find third party technical assistance
- Pay up to 50% of the cost of an energy audit to a maximum of $1,000
How to Start
- Email Efficiency Nova Scotia to confirm eligibility and to obtain a list of consultants (if required)
- Complete the Scoping Study
- Request a Scoping Study Rebate Application (FORM 1 in document package)
2. Feasibility Assessment
This study determines the cost/energy saving ratio of the project. The study must be conducted by a professional engineer, either on your staff or with an external firm.
Efficiency Nova Scotia may accept existing feasibility studies, although no incentive will be paid toward the cost.
Efficiency Nova Scotia can:
- Help with the costs of a feasibility study
- Provide a template and content guidelines for completing the study (available in the program document package)
- Loan your organization test equipment at no cost
How to start
- Email Efficiency Nova Scotia to confirm eligibility and to obtain a list of consultants (if required) or to request consideration of an existing feasibility study.
- Complete the Feasibility Study
- Submit a Feasibility Study Incentive Application (FORM 2 in document package)
3. Project Implementation
Efficiency Nova Scotia will develop a customized Project Development Agreement (PDA) based on the energy-saving measures identified in the feasibility study. It will outline the incentive amount, payment schedule and measurement and verification methodology. Efficiency Nova Scotia offers incentives as a lump sum or at predefined project milestones. Once a PDA is agreed upon, your organization can implement the project using in-house staff or external contractors.
How to start
- Email Efficiency Nova Scotia to request a Project Development Agreement (PDA) for energy-efficiency measures outlined in the feasibility study you wish to undertake
- Return the signed PDA
- Implement the energy-efficiency measures
4. Measurement and Verification (M&V)
Efficiency Nova Scotia will work with your organization to develop a suitable M&V methodology to verify the energy savings results and will outline the M&V requirements in the PDA. We can provide your organization with test equipment at no cost; however, you will be responsible for conducting the measurements and providing the energy-saving verification results.
