Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

Review the list below to ensure your project is eligible for rebates:

  1. Pipe insulation must be included on all pipe types, and all accessible hot water pipes if the solar system is tied into a space heating system.
  2. Applicant must own the business / institution where the system is installed.
  3. Limit of one solar water and one solar air heating rebate per eligible Nova Scotian facility.
  4. System must be designed for year-round operation with the exception commercial / community pool heating.
  5. System was installed according to industry best practice and manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. Solar collector make and model must be on Efficiency Nova Scotia’s list. Visit www.efficiencyns.ca for more details.
  7. Efficiency Nova Scotia reserves the right to decline installations where it is determined that the system will not meet performance potential.
  8. Legible copies of receipts and interior and exterior photos of the solar thermal system (including pipes) must be included with the application form.
  9. For solar water heating systems - minimum R3 pipe insulation must be installed on:
  10. All accessible hot water pipes and the first 3 metres (10 feet) of the cold water pipes connected to the conventional water heater.
  11. All water pipes connecting the solar storage tank to the conventional water heater.
  12. All water pipes connecting the solar panels to the solar storage tank.
  13. Applicant agrees to a random inspection / audit by staff or agents of Efficiency Nova Scotia.
  14. This rebate may be available for a limited time.

- CSA List of Solar Concentrators (click here for list) 

- Or the former F378 list, previously administered by Natural Resources Canada

Please note that all electrical components that are used with the overall system must be properly approved for use in Nova Scotia (ie. a CE or CCC marking is not acceptable - approval must be equivalent to CSA).

Rebates that exceed $20,000 for either program can also be considered, but applicants are required to apply in advance with a detailed project description. These rebates must be also pre-approved, and will be provided based on available funding. Please download a copy of the pre-approval form, click here.
