Fuel Substitution

Apply now to help reduce your electricity bill.

Whether you want to get off electric heat altogether or just want to supplement it with another energy source, it all helps. Not only can it reduce your heating bill, it will lower your greenhouse gas emissions. Earn rebates and save money by switching from electric to wood/pellets, natural gas or propane, geothermal, or ducted air source heating systems. Additional rebates are also available to replace electric ranges and dryers with natural gas equipment or for drain water heat recovery systems.

Some people wonder why it is more environmentally friendly to switch from electricity to a fuel source where they burn wood, pellets or gas.  Simply put, heating with electricity in Nova Scotia is expensive and dirty because it is primarily produced by burning coal and oil - what’s worse is that there are efficiency losses in transmitting electricity over long distances – making electric heat relatively inefficient. Heating with natural gas, wood or pellets saves money, improves efficiency, and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Heating with propane generally costs closer to the same in energy costs as electricity, but does help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Save money right now on the cost of the conversion. We’ll help with meaningful rebates for new equipment and the removal of old equipment (where applicable).  For rebates for each fuel type, click the following:  gas, wood and pellet furnaces /boilers, wood and pellet stoves, geothermal and ducted central air source heat pumps, and drain water heat recovery.
