Wood & Pellet Furnaces or Boilers

Rebates:

  • $2,000 for wood equipment and installation (or up to 40% of the costs including HST, whichever is lower).
  • $4,000 for standard pellet furnace or boiler equipment and installation (or up to 50% of the costs including HST, whichever is lower). Standard pellet equipment is considered to not be fully automatic, and where a back-up system is required.
  • $10,000 for an advanced automatic pellet heating system and installation (or up to 60% of the costs including HST, whichever is lower). Installers must be properly trained by the manufacturer and must commit to providing future maintenance when required. An advanced pellet heating system is one which is designed to have only seasonal maintenance, and where a back-up heating system is not required or used. Typically this equipment comes from Europe and would have the ability to operate safely without supervision for a few weeks at a time.
  • $3,000 for additional installation costs where a central furnace or boiler is replacing electric baseboards (not to exceed 100% of installation costs). This includes the costs to remove electric baseboards and install the new forced-air or hydronic heating system, and is only available in cases where electric heating will be removed from the house completely.
  • Wood/Pellet burning equipment should be properly sized, have the right chimney / exhaust, ventilation and be properly installed. A WETT certified professional can help you make the best decision and install your appliance correctly. For information about wood/pellet heating options click here.
  • Homeowners should contact their insurance company to find out more about how these heating systems affect home insurance.

Cordwood and pellets are a renewable resource and are produced locally in Nova Scotia. Costing less than electricity for heating, cordwood or pellets can provide a safe and comfortable home heating alternative.
