Shift and Save
Part of transitioning to a greener future involves modernizing technology and making a shift. That’s why we’re working to pilot new innovative solutions so customers join us in that journey. Through our new pilot program with Nova Scotia Power, we’ll be testing how water heater controllers can help improve operation of the grid.
Peak demand happens when Nova Scotian’s use large amounts of electricity at the exact same time, meaning that if too many people are showering every morning at 7am or cooking every night at 5pm it can strain our electrical grid. It’s during these times that more electricity is used and create surges that are more costly.
Efficiency Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia Power have partnered to launch this pilot and gain valuable insights on how we can use technology to improve operation of the grid. We’re inviting 200 customers to join us in this program where you’ll receive a complimentary smart water heater controller. Once connected through your home’s Wi-Fi network, the device will shift when electricity is used to heat your water away from the peak demand.
Working together to reduce peak demand can result in cost savings that benefit all Nova Scotians.
