EfficiencyOne Board Chair and CEO Named Clean50 Award Winners
(Dartmouth, NS) – Efficiency Nova Scotia is proud to announce that William Lahey, Chair of the Board of Directors of EfficiencyOne and Stephen MacDonald, Chief Executive Officer of EfficiencyOne, have been named recipients of Canada’s 2018 Clean50 award for their industry-leading efforts promoting energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions in Nova Scotia.
Clean50 recognizes 50 individuals (or small teams) from 16 different categories that have made the greatest contributions to sustainable development or clean capitalism in Canada between January 1, 2015 and March 31, 2017. Both Mr. Lahey and Mr. MacDonald were named in the Traditional Energy category. A summit is hosted annually to give honourees the opportunity to build connections, share inspiration and tackle common sustainability challenges.
“Mr. Lahey and Mr. MacDonald were chosen after rigorous screening and research by Delta Management, with advice from internal researchers and external advisors and were selected from an initial pool of approximately 600 well-qualified nominees,” said Gavin Pitchford, CEO of the Delta Management Group, who steward the Clean50 awards.
“The Clean50 come from such a broad array of backgrounds, such that only a few individuals are able to be recognized within any given category. To receive a Clean50 award is truly indicative of both industry and personal leadership in the traditional energy category.”
In 2016, EfficiencyOne achieved $150 million in energy-cost savings for Nova Scotians and 700,000 tonnes of avoided CO2 emissions, delivering industry-leading results at a cost of around three cents per kWh saved. Since 2010, the organization has engaged over 250,000 Nova Scotians in energy efficiency programming and has reduced Nova Scotia’s electricity usage by nine percent. EfficiencyOne’s model of outsourcing the delivery of efficiency programs to local businesses creates jobs, supports local economic growth, and has helped build a new and innovative industry in the province.
Both Mr. Lahey and Mr. MacDonald say they are honoured to be considered among Canada’s energy efficiency leaders.
“It truly is a privilege to represent Nova Scotia and the work being done in our province,” said Mr. Lahey. “My Board colleagues and I are keenly aware of, and committed to, our role in driving an organizational culture of high-performance at EfficiencyOne, which includes a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement.”
“As CEO of EfficiencyOne, I’m extremely proud of the role we’ve played in saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the province,” said Mr. MacDonald. “I look forward to continuing to work with our partners in the industry to address climate change challenges.”
The Clean50 Summit will take place at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) Clubhouse on Toronto Island on
Thursday, September 28th.
