Spring is just around the corner and now is the perfect time to start preparing. Follow our tips to get you ready for the warmer weather!
Heat Pump Maintenance
Keep up with your heat pump maintenance – There are many ways to ensure your heat pump is well maintained for the spring. Here are a few:
- Check all wiring and connections on your outdoor unit to ensure they are tight.
- Remove debris from outdoor until. On the condenser/compressor, remove the fan cage and fasteners using a screwdriver. Clean the leaves and debris out by hand or with a vacuum.
- Gently spray the outdoor unit with a garden hose removing dirt and any other building that may be there.
Water Heater Maintenance
Check your hot water heater. While you may not need to heat your home during the spring, many of us will continue to use hot water for showers, dishes, etc. A tip to avoid repairs which may be costly in the future is to drain about a quarter of your hot water tank to remove debris at least once a year.
Draft-proof your home. In warm weather, cool air can escape your house through cracks and openings, that’s why it’s a good idea to find and seal any cracks in your home. Not sure where to start? Check out our guide to draft proofing. https://www.efficiencyns.ca/guide/guide-to-draft-proofing/
