5 Tips To Save Energy When Using Your Clothes Washer
There are a number of different ways to save energy and money while doing laundry. When laundry day arrives, follow these tips to maximize your savings:
1) Fill, but don’t overfill
Clothes washers operate most efficiently when they’re full, but can become damaged if overloaded.
2) Choose the right speed
Choose the “high-speed” or “extended spin” option to get more water out of your clothes and reduce your drying time.
3) Use cold water
Choose the cold water option to save energy used to heat water. If you have to use hot water, set the water level at the minimum for the wash, and use a cold water rinse.
4) Pre-soak
Pre-soak extra dirty items to avoid double washing.
5) ENERGY STAR
If purchasing a new washer, buy ENERGY STAR and save! An ENERGY STAR certified clothes washer uses 25% less energy than a regular model, and can save you up to $40 a year off your power bill. An instant $75 discount is available in stores year round on select eligible washers.
