EfficiencyOne Named One of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2018

(Dartmouth, NS) – For the fifth year in a row, EfficiencyOne has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers, a competition that recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness.

Winning employers, announced today by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, are evaluated using four main criteria: (1) the unique environmental initiatives or programs they have developed; (2) whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint; (3) whether their employees are involved in these programs and contribute any unique skills; and (4) whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity, attracting new employees and customers.

EfficiencyOne CEO Stephen MacDonald, says the award is recognition of the commitment the organization, and all Nova Scotians, are making towards an energy efficient way of life.

“To be recognized along with our peers in energy efficiency across Canada is very rewarding for EfficiencyOne,” said Mr. MacDonald. “Recognition such as this inspires us to do even better and help more Nova Scotians enjoy all the good things efficiency brings.”

Some of the reasons why EfficiencyOne was selected as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers (2018) include:

  • EfficiencyOne encourages employees to leave their cars at home through a number of initiatives including discounted transit passes, an active carpooling program that includes preferred and discounted parking, and support for cyclists (indoor parking, access to a bike pump and repair tools, and shower facilities).
  • EfficiencyOne seeks to reduce its own environmental impacts through regular waste audits, which has led to a disposable water bottle ban for events and meetings, the use of non-disposable cutlery and dishes, and the development of an onsite organic community garden, donating the produce to the local food bank.
  • EfficiencyOne’s unique line of business is designed to encourage fellow Nova Scotians to reduce energy consumption and make green living choices, offering rebates to residents for the purchase of energy efficient appliances.
