Efficiency Nova Scotia Employee Wins Canada Green Building Award
(Dartmouth, NS) – Natasha Pearce, a Program Manager at Efficiency Nova Scotia, was awarded the Canada Green Building Council’s Atlantic Chapter’s Emerging Green Leader Award last evening during the organization’s BuildGreen Atlantic Conference and Trade show at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax.
The awards program recognizes contributions towards the CaGBC Atlantic Chapter’s mission and goals of accelerating green building in Atlantic Canada.
The Emerging Green Leader Award recognizes a deserving student or young professional who has made a significant contribution to advocating, educating or practicing green building and/or community development. This individual is recognized as a leader among their peers and has a strong commitment to green building, the environment and positive change.
Ms. Pearce is dedicated to the advancement of energy performance in new home construction by increasing green building literacy and raising awareness about the importance of low energy buildings. Over the past year, she developed and implemented tools and training to promote sustainable practices within Nova Scotian homes and businesses. Within six months, a network of “community ambassadors”, consisting of over two dozen volunteers, was fully trained and engaging other individuals within their communities. Ms. Pearce also made presentations to nearly 100 building officials and permit offices in which she discussed opportunities to overcome barriers in building energy efficient homes, and promoted alternative solutions such as Passive House standards for homes to further reduce their environmental impact.
Ms. Pearce, an AET graduate from the Nova Scotia Community College and Program Manager at Efficiency Nova Scotia, became Canada’s first Passive House Verifier in 2017. Already a Certified Passive House Consultant through Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) this additional certification enables her to perform third-party Quality Assurance and onsite verification for multifamily and commercial passive building projects pursuing PHIUS+ Certification.
