Government announces more support for energy efficiency

On June 16, the Honourable Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board of Canada and Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants (Nova Scotia), echoed the announcement from the Minister of Environment and Climate Change on the Government’s $2 billion Low Carbon Economy Fund. The Fund will provide $56.3 million over five years to the Province of Nova Scotia to help support projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including enhancing existing Efficiency Nova Scotia programs.

Energy efficiency has an important role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, creating local jobs, and saving families and businesses money. We look forward to working with the Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia over the next several months to expand the impact of energy efficiency programming in Nova Scotia.

We expect to announce further details regarding the expansion of Efficiency Nova Scotia programs in the fall. Discussions between the Province and the Government of Canada to put in place a bilateral funding agreement are expected to happen over the summer. Once an agreement is reached, we will announce further details on what the funding means for the expansion of Efficiency Nova Scotia programs, and when program enhancements will be available to Nova Scotians.
